The voice in the wilderness called for a way for the Lord, a path prepared even in desolation. I should listen to the Master's call and create a path in my heart through the desert of my nature. The text's four instructions demand my attention. Every valley must be lifted up. Low thoughts of God, doubt, and self-indulgence must go. Over these deep valleys, a road of grace is to be raised. Every mountain and hill shall be leveled. Pride and self-righteousness must be brought down to make a path for the King of Kings.
God does not dwell with the proud. He seeks the humble and contrite, while the lofty are far from Him. My heart, ask the Holy Spirit to set you right here. The crooked will be made straight. The wavering heart needs a clear, committed path to God and holiness. Double-minded people do not know the God of truth. Heart, be honest and true before the God who sees all. The rough places will be smoothed.
Sin and rebellion must be cleared away. The great Visitor should not find troubled paths when He comes to dwell with us. May the Lord find in my heart a highway prepared by His grace, ready for His triumph from the year's start to its end.
Closing Prayer
Lord, as we end this day, thank You for Your grace that meets us where we are. Amen.
