Our Vision
Imagine starting and ending each day with the wisdom of one of history's greatest preachers. Charles Spurgeon had the remarkable gift of making Scripture come alive, taking ancient truths and showing how they apply to the joys and struggles of everyday life.
But Spurgeon's Victorian English can feel distant to modern readers. We're making these treasured devotions accessible to a new generation through careful modernization that preserves the warmth, urgency, and pastoral heart that made Spurgeon beloved worldwide.
"The goal is simple: help you meet with God every morning and evening through His Word."
Who Was Charles Spurgeon?
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was a British Baptist preacher known as the “Prince of Preachers.” By age 19, he was already pastoring in London, and by 25, he was preaching to audiences of 10,000 people every week at the Metropolitan Tabernacle.
Spurgeon had an extraordinary ability to explain Scripture in language that both scholars and common people could understand. His sermons were published weekly and distributed around the world.
Morning and Evening, first published in 1866, became his most beloved work: a daily devotional that has never been out of print. Each entry offers a short meditation on a Bible verse, designed to bookend the day with Scripture and prayer.
"I would rather speak to 10 people who want to hear than to 1,000 who don't. But if the Lord gives me 6,000 who want to hear, I'll gladly preach to 6,000."

How It Works
Careful Modernization
Victorian English phrases and idioms have been thoughtfully updated for contemporary readers, making Spurgeon's words feel immediate and personal.
Every update has been reviewed to ensure accuracy and faithfulness to Spurgeon's original theological perspective and pastoral heart.
Professional Audio Narration
Each devotion features clear, warm narration tuned for appropriate pacing and tone.
The result is audio that feels natural and engaging, perfect for listening during your commute, morning routine, or quiet meditation time.
World English Bible
Scripture quotations come from the World English Bible (WEB), a modern translation that stays faithful to the original Hebrew and Greek texts while using contemporary English. Like Spurgeon's original work, the WEB is in the public domain.
Original Text Preserved
While we offer modernized versions, we also preserve Spurgeon's original Victorian text for those who prefer the classic language or want to study his original word choices.
The Gospel Expansion Initiative
Daily Spurgeon is a project of The Gospel Expansion Initiative (GEI), an organization dedicated to making the riches of Christian history freely accessible to every person on earth.
Our mission is to spread the timeless truths of the gospel by breaking down barriers of language, access, and cost that prevent people from encountering great Christian literature.
