"Love your neighbor." Maybe he lives in luxury while you're struggling, his mansion standing next to your humble home. You see his wealth daily, his fine clothes and abundant meals. God has blessed him with these; don't envy his riches or harbor resentment. Be content with your own situation if you can't change it, but don't wish your neighbor lived like you. Love him, and envy will fade.
Perhaps you're the one with wealth, living near those with less. Don't look down on them. Remember, you're called to love them. The world may label them your inferiors, but in what way? "God made from one blood all nations." Your clothes might be finer, but you're no better than they. They're human, just as you are. Ensure you love your neighbor, even if he's wearing rags or struggling with poverty.
Maybe you think, "I can't love them. They repay kindness with ingratitude and contempt." This is where love becomes heroic. Will you be a timid warrior, or will you bravely face the challenges of love? The greater the challenge, the greater the reward. If your path of love is tough, walk it boldly, loving your neighbors through the difficulties. Heap kindness upon them, not to win their favor, but to please God. If they reject your love, remember that God accepts it, and your actions are pleasing to Him. Love your neighbor, for in doing so, you're following Christ's footsteps.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, as dawn breaks, fill us with Your love so we can share it freely. For Your glory, Amen.
