This was no small miracle—the tearing of that thick, heavy curtain. But God wasn't merely displaying his power. No! There were lessons written in that torn fabric.
The old system of laws and sacrifices was finished, ripped apart like worn-out clothing and thrown aside. When Jesus died, every sacrifice was completed, every offering fulfilled in him. And so the very place where those sacrifices were made was marked with an unmistakable sign of its end.
But that tear revealed something magnificent! All the hidden mysteries of the old covenant were suddenly exposed. The mercy seat could be seen. The glory of God blazed forth from behind that veil. Through the death of our Lord Jesus, we have a clear revelation of God himself—not like Moses, who had to cover his face with a veil. No! Life and immortality shine out bright and clear. Things hidden since the foundation of the world are now manifest in Christ.
The yearly Day of Atonement? Abolished! That blood that was sprinkled once a year behind the veil has been replaced by something infinitely better. The great High Priest has offered his own blood, once for all. The whole system of symbols has been swept away. No more blood of bulls. No more blood of lambs. Jesus has entered behind the veil with his own blood.
And here's what this means for you: the way to God is wide open. Every believer in Christ Jesus has the privilege to walk straight in. This isn't some tiny crack we have to squint through to catch a glimpse of the mercy seat. The veil is torn from top to bottom! We can march right up to the throne of heavenly grace with boldness.
Shall we err if we say this? When our Lord's dying cry tore open the Holy of Holies, he was showing us how his death would tear open the gates of paradise for all his saints! Our bleeding Lord holds the keys of heaven. He opens, and no man shuts. So come! Enter with him into the heavenly places. Sit with him there until our common enemies are made his footstool.
Closing Prayer
Today, walk into God's presence like you belong there. Because through Christ's torn body, you do. The veil is gone. The way is open. Come boldly.
