July 31

In the temple, the sacred chant was unending. The singers constantly praised the Lord, whose mercy never ends. Just as God's mercy continues day and night, so did the music of His worship. Let this teach you something, my heart. You owe a constant debt of gratitude, so let your praise be as enduring as His love. Heaven is filled with God’s praise and will be your eternal home, so start practicing hallelujahs now.

Around the world, as the sun rises, grateful believers wake to sing morning hymns. Through the priesthood of all believers, continual praise surrounds the earth in a chorus of thanksgiving. The Lord is always worthy of praise: for His nature, creation, providence, goodness to His creatures, and especially His extraordinary act of salvation. Praising God lifts the day, lightens burdens, softens sorrows, and it adds a holy glow to our joy, keeping us from being blinded by it. Don't we have something to sing about in this very moment?

Can we sing from our current joys, past deliverances, or future hopes? The earth is fruitful: the hay is gathered, grain waits for the harvest, and the sun lingers to bless the land. These long days are an opportunity to extend our hours of worship. Stirred by Jesus' love, let's end this day with a song of holy gladness.

Closing Prayer

Father, as evening falls, help us trust You completely, even when we can't see the way. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
