In his conversation with Laban, Jacob said, "For twenty years I’ve been with you. I took the loss for anything torn by beasts; you required it from my hand, whether stolen by day or night. By day, the drought consumed me, and by night, the frost did, leaving me sleepless." The life of our Savior was even more toilsome. He watched over all His sheep, confidently stating, "Of all those you've given me, I've lost none." His hair was drenched with dew and the drops of the night.
Sleep left His eyes as He spent nights in prayer, wrestling for His people. One night it was Peter who needed His pleas; another saw Him weep for someone else. No shepherd beneath cold skies could match Jesus' struggles. He prayed fervently on cold mountains and in the midnight air. The desert knew His temptations, His battles, and His victories. Like Jacob, who was responsible for every sheep, Jesus took responsibility for His Church, ensuring each believer reached the Father safely. Looking at Jacob's labor, we see a reflection of Him who "will feed His flock like a shepherd."
Contemplating Jacob's commitment, we see a glimpse of Christ’s boundless dedication to us.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, as this new day begins, calm our anxious hearts with Your peace. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
