April 17

Reader, have you come to the blood of sprinkling? The question is not whether you've mastered the right doctrines, or performed the right ceremonies, or had the right religious experiences. Have you come to the blood of Jesus? The blood of Jesus is the beating heart of all true spiritual life.

If you have truly come to Jesus, we know how it happened. The Holy Spirit himself brought you there. You came to that sprinkled blood with absolutely nothing in your hands. Guilty, lost, and helpless, you came to take that blood—that blood alone—as your only hope for eternity. You came to the cross of Christ with a trembling, aching heart. And oh! What a sound it was when you first heard the voice of Jesus' blood speaking to you! Every drop that fell from his wounds was like the music of heaven to your guilty soul.

We are full of sin, but the Savior calls us to lift our eyes to him. And as we look at his wounds, still streaming, each drop of blood cries out: "It is finished! I have ended sin! I have brought in righteousness that will never fade!" What sweet language flows from the precious blood of Jesus!

But mark this well—if you have come to that blood once, you will come to it constantly. Your life will become one long look toward Jesus. Your whole life will be summed up in these three words: "To whom coming." Not to whom I came, as if it were finished. But to whom I am always coming, right now, today.

If you have ever truly come to the blood of sprinkling, you will feel your need to come to it every single day. Let me say it plainly: whoever does not desire to wash in it every day has never washed in it at all. The true believer finds it both joy and privilege that the fountain is still flowing, still open, still cleansing.

Past experiences make poor food for hungry Christians. Yesterday's grace won't satisfy today's need. Only a present coming to Christ—right now, this moment—can give us real joy and comfort.

So this morning, let's mark our doorposts fresh with blood. Let's feast on the Lamb. The destroying angel must pass us by.

Closing Prayer

Don't rely on yesterday's experience with Christ. Come to him fresh this morning. The fountain is still flowing, and you need its cleansing today as much as you did the first time.
