The beginning of Zerubbabel's work seemed small, yet it wasn't to be despised. The Lord had raised up someone who would persevere until the headstone was placed with joyful shouts. The project was in capable hands. Every believer can find comfort in this. Even if the work of grace starts small, a master builder greater than Solomon has committed to raising the heavenly temple, and he won't stop until the final pinnacle is set.
If this work were in human hands alone, we'd worry. But Jesus ensures the Lord's plans will succeed. With his careful guidance, the work progresses without flaw. If walls were thrown up haphazardly, they'd be crooked. But under Jesus, the chosen overseer, everything is built soundly.
We tend to rush, but Jesus judges wisely. He uses the plummet; anything misaligned is corrected. This explains why some seemingly impressive efforts collapse and false professions fail. We shouldn't judge the Lord's church, as Jesus expertly wields the plummet.
Don't we rejoice knowing judgment is his? The plummet is busy in his hand, signaling his determination to finish the work. Lord Jesus, how we long to see you at your great task. O Zion, your walls remain in ruins. Rise, glorious Builder, and make your desolated places sing with joy at your arrival.
Closing Prayer
Lord, as we close this day, help us trust completely in You, even when the path is unclear. For Your glory, Amen.
