December 8

Every gift God gives is a prepared gift—laid up in store for needs already foreseen. He anticipates what you will need. And out of the fullness he has treasured up in Christ Jesus, he provides from his goodness for the poor.

You can trust him for every single need that will ever arise, because he has infallibly foreseen each one. In every situation you face, he can say, "I knew you would come to this."

Picture a traveler crossing the desert. After a long day's journey, he pitches his tent and suddenly realizes he forgot essential supplies. "Ah!" he groans. "If only I had foreseen this! If I could do this journey again, I would pack what I really need." But God? He has marked with prescient eye every requirement of his poor, wandering children. And when those needs arise, the supplies are already there. Waiting.

And what has he prepared for the poor in heart? Goodness—goodness and goodness only. Nothing else. "My grace is sufficient for you." "As your days, so shall your strength be."

Is your heart heavy tonight? God knew it would be. The exact comfort your heart craves is already treasured in the sweet assurance of this text. You are poor and needy—yes! But he has thought upon you. He has the precise blessing you need in his storehouse, ready and waiting.

So plead this promise! Believe it! Obtain its fulfillment! Do you feel that you've never been so consciously vile as you are now? Behold! The crimson fountain is open still, with all its former power to wash your sin away. Never shall you come into such a position that Christ cannot aid you. No crisis shall ever arrive in your spiritual affairs where Jesus Christ is not equal to the emergency—for your whole history has been foreknown and provided for in Jesus.

Closing Prayer

Whatever tomorrow holds, God has already been there. The grace you will need is already prepared. Rest in that tonight.
