Salt was part of every offering made by fire to the Lord. Its preserving and purifying qualities represented God's grace in the soul. Notice that when Artaxerxes gave salt to Ezra the priest, he didn't limit the amount. Likewise, when God distributes grace to His people, He doesn't hold back. We might limit ourselves, but the Lord never does. If you’re eager to gather much grace, you can have as much as you want.
There's no famine in God's kingdom. We don't receive grace by measure, as some things are, like vinegar or gall. Of grace, there's no lack: "Ask whatever you want, and it will be given to you." Parents might lock away sweets, but no one needs to lock up the salt of grace, for no one can have too much. You can have too much money or honor, but not too much grace.
When Jeshurun grew physically prosperous, he turned against God, yet no one grows too full of grace. More wealth can lead to more worries, but more grace brings more joy. Increased wisdom might bring sorrow, but more of the Spirit brings joy. Believer, go to God's throne to receive an abundance of heavenly salt. It will season your struggles, preserve your heart, and weaken your sins. You need much grace, so seek and receive it freely.
Closing Prayer
Lord, as we begin today, help us to trust You completely, even when we can't see the way ahead. In Jesus' name, Amen.
