January 1

As Israel's long journey ended, they finally reached the promised rest. No more wandering, no more battling savage foes or traversing barren lands. They now enjoyed a land full of abundance, eating the fruits of their promised inheritance. Maybe this year, you or I will find our own promised rest. What a joyful thought! With active faith, it brings true delight.

Being with Jesus in the eternal rest destined for God's people is a comforting hope. Imagining this glory fulfilled soon is an even greater joy. Though doubts may fear the unknowns that lie ahead, remember that we've faced troubles far worse than any challenge death might pose. Let’s push aside fear and rejoice greatly at the thought of being “forever with the Lord” this year. Some of us may remain here to serve our Lord. If that's the case, we can still hold to this truth.

"We who have believed do enter into rest." The Holy Spirit gives us a taste of our future inheritance. Just as those in heaven are secure and victorious, so are we in Christ. Heavenly beings commune with the Lord, and we can too. They rest in His love, and we find perfect peace in Him. They sing His praises, and we are invited to do the same. This year, may we find heavenly blessings on earthly soil, turning barren places into lush gardens of faith and hope. Just as manna fell in the wilderness, why shouldn't we feed on Jesus and taste the fruits of our spiritual Canaan this year?

Closing Prayer

Lord, as we begin this day, help us trust in You completely, even when we can't see the way ahead. For Your glory, Amen.
