Notice how much Scripture focuses on prayer, showing examples, giving commands, and sharing promises. Near the beginning, we read, "Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord," and as we reach the end, an earnest "Amen" rings out. Examples of prayer abound.
We see Jacob wrestling in prayer, Daniel praying three times daily, and David calling on God with all his heart. Elijah prays on the mountain, Paul and Silas in prison. Commands and promises about prayer are numerous, highlighting its sacred importance and need in our lives.
Whatever God emphasizes in His Word, He intends to be important in our lives. If He speaks much about prayer, it's because we need it greatly. Our needs are so deep that we must never stop praying until we reach heaven. Do you think you need nothing?
Then you might not understand your poverty. Need no mercy from God? May the Lord's mercy reveal your need! A life without prayer is a life without Christ.
Prayer is the first words of a believer, the shout of a fighter, the final words of a saint entering rest in Jesus. It is the breath, strength, comfort, and honor of a Christian. If you're God's child, you will seek Him and live in His love. Pray to be holy, humble, zealous, and patient this year. Seek closer relationship with Christ and frequent time in God's presence. Pray to be an example and a blessing to others, living for God's glory. Remember this year's motto: "Continue in prayer."
Closing Prayer
Lord, as morning breaks, help us trust You completely, even when we can't see the way. In Jesus' name, Amen.
