The Lord is "slow to anger." Mercy races with urgency; her chariot wheels burn with speed. Wrath, however, moves slowly, for God finds no joy in the death of sinners. His hand stretches out with the rod of mercy, while His sword of justice remains sheathed, held by the pierced hand that bled for our sins. "The Lord is slow to anger" because He is truly great in power. True power is self-restraint.

God's restrained power is mighty indeed: holding back His omnipotence shows strength greater than we can imagine. One with a strong mind endures insult and acts only when truly necessary. The weak mind flares at the slightest provocation. The strong mind stands firm, unmovable like a rock battered by waves.

God notes those who oppose Him, yet He holds back His anger. If He were less divine, He'd have unleashed His thunder long ago. The earth would be scorched by heavenly fires, and humanity wiped out. His great power brings us mercy instead. This evening, where do you stand? Can you look to Jesus in faith and say, "My substitute, you're my rock, my trust"?

If so, don't fear God's power. By faith, you've taken refuge in Christ, and His power should comfort, not terrify you. Rejoice, because He who is "great in power" is also your Father and Friend.

Closing Prayer

Lord, help us trust You completely, even when the way is uncertain. In Jesus' name, Amen.
