Could the stones cry out? They could if God, who gives speech to the mute, commanded them. If they were to speak, they would have much to say about the One who created them by His power. They could praise the wisdom and strength of their Maker.
Shouldn't we speak well of the One who made us anew and raised up children for Abraham from stones? The old rocks could tell of chaos and order and God's handiwork through creation's stages. Can't we speak of God's decrees and His mighty works in the past, for His church long ago? If stones cried out, they could tell of their breaker who shaped them for the temple. Can't we share about our glorious Breaker who softened our hearts with His word to build us into His temple?
If stones spoke, they'd praise their builder for polishing and shaping them as palaces. Shouldn't we talk of our Architect who placed us in the temple of the living God? Stones might tell long stories as memorials before the Lord. We too can testify of Ebenezers, stones of help, and memories of God's faithfulness.
The broken stones of the law cry against us, but Christ, who rolled away the stone from the tomb, speaks for us. Stones might cry out, but we won't let them. We'll drown their cries with our praises, breaking into sacred song to bless the Lord's majesty, glorifying Him all our days as the Shepherd and Stone of Israel.
Closing Prayer
God, as we end this day, guide us in the way we should go. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
