If Rizpah's love for her slain sons could sustain her mournful vigil for so long, should we ever grow tired of reflecting on our Lord's sufferings? She drove away birds of prey. Shouldn't we also chase away the worldly and sinful thoughts that defile our minds and the holy themes we ponder? Away with you, evil thoughts! Leave the sacrifice undisturbed.
Rizpah endured the summer heat, rain, and cold, without shelter or sleep, her heart too full for rest. See how she loved her children! Can we not endure minor inconveniences for our Savior? Are we cowards, unable to suffer for our Lord? She bravely chased away even wild beasts. Shouldn't we face every foe for Jesus' sake? Her children were killed by others, but she watched and wept. We've crucified our Lord with our sins. Our obligations are endless, our love should burn brightly, and our repentance be sincere.
Watching over Jesus should be our life’s work. Protecting His honor is our duty, staying near His cross, our comfort. While Rizpah had fearsome corpses to haunt her, at Jesus’ cross, nothing repels us. Instead, there lies beauty and grace. Jesus, we'll stay with You a while longer. Reveal Yourself to us, so we may find ourselves not in mourning clothes, but in a royal tent.
