Jesus carried His cross and went to suffer outside the city gates. Christians leave the world’s sin and religion not to be different for its own sake, but because Jesus did. We must follow our Master. Christ wasn't of this world. His life was a constant stand against conforming to it. Though He loved people deeply, He remained separate from sinners.
In the same way, we must go to Him. We must stand "outside the camp," as witnesses to the truth. We're called to walk the straight and narrow path with boldness, loving Christ and His truth above everything. Jesus wants His people to separate for the sake of their holiness.
You can’t grow in grace while conforming to the world. Although living apart can bring sorrow, it is safer. The separated life might be full of struggle and daily battles, but it's a joyful one. No joy surpasses that of being Christ’s soldier.
Jesus graciously reveals Himself and provides refreshment, allowing the warrior to find more peace in struggle than others find in rest. The path of holiness is the path of communion. By God’s grace, we can faithfully follow Christ outside the camp. The crown of glory will follow the cross of separation. A brief moment of shame will be far outweighed by eternal honor. Witnessing now will seem like nothing when we are forever with the Lord.
Closing Prayer
God, as we start this day, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. For Your glory, Amen.
