How comprehensive is the love of Jesus! There is no corner of your life he overlooks, no concern of yours too small for his attention. He doesn't merely think of you, believer, as an immortal soul bound for eternity—he thinks of you as a mortal being too, with bills to pay and bodies that break.
Do not deny it or doubt it: "The very hairs of your head are all numbered." "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he delights in his way." What a disaster it would be if this mantle of love only covered the spiritual parts of our lives! Think of the mischief that could be wrought in all the ordinary places his care didn't reach!
Believer, rest assured that the heart of Jesus cares about your smallest affairs. The breadth of his tender love is such that you can bring him everything—everything! In all your afflictions he is afflicted. Like a father who aches when his children ache, so he aches with you. The most mundane worries of the weakest saint are all borne upon the mighty shoulders of the Son of God.
Oh, what a heart is his! It holds not merely his people, but every single burden those people carry. The thousands upon thousands of concerns, from every one of his children—and he misses nothing.
Do you think, O Christian, that you can measure the love of Christ? Think of what his love has brought you—justification, adoption, sanctification, eternal life! The riches of his goodness are unsearchable; you will never reach the bottom, never map the edges.
Oh, the breadth of the love of Christ! Shall such a love as this have half our hearts? Shall it have a cold love in return? Shall Jesus' marvelous lovingkindness and tender care meet with but faint response and tardy acknowledgment?
O my soul, tune your harp to a glad song of thanksgiving! Go to your rest rejoicing, for you are no desolate wanderer, but a beloved child—watched over, cared for, supplied, and defended by your Lord.
Closing Prayer
Tonight, bring him that worry you think is too small to matter. The God who numbers your hairs is already carrying it.
