May 10

Believer, you can testify that Christ is the only begotten of the Father and the first born from the dead. You can say, "To me, He is divine even if the world sees Him as only human. He has done for me what only God could do. He has subdued my stubborn will, melted my hardened heart, opened gates of brass, and snapped bars of iron.

He has turned my mourning into laughter and my desolation into joy. He has led my captivity captive and filled my heart with indescribable joy. Let others think as they will, to me, He is the only begotten of the Father. Blessed be His name. He is full of grace. Without His grace, I would never have been saved. He drew me in, even as I struggled to escape His grace. When I finally came, trembling like a condemned culprit to His mercy, He said, 'Your many sins are all forgiven: be of good cheer.'

And He is full of truth. His promises have been true, never failing. I testify that no servant ever had a master like mine, no brother had a kinsman like Him, no spouse had a husband like Christ has been to my soul. No sinner ever found a better Savior, no mourner a better Comforter. I need no one beside Him. In life, He is my life. In death, He will be the death of death. In poverty, Christ is my riches. In sickness, He makes my bed. In darkness, He is my star; in brightness, my sun. He is the manna in the wilderness, and He will be the new corn when we reach Canaan. To me, Jesus is all grace, no wrath. He is all truth, no falsehood. He is full, infinitely full, of grace and truth. My heart, tonight, bless the only Begotten with all your might."

Closing Prayer

Father, as evening comes, help us trust You completely, even when the path isn't clear. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
