The Psalmist's confidence was entirely in God. He didn't claim, "I have enough grace to handle everything myself, my faith won't falter, my love will never cool, my resolve is unshakeable." His trust was in the Lord alone. Any other confidence is a weak illusion that will crumble, bringing confusion and sorrow.

Everything nature creates will fade away, leaving those who depend on it in defeat. The Psalmist wisely relied on God's work alone. It's God who began the good work in us, who sustains it, and if he doesn't finish it, it remains incomplete. If we had to add even one stitch to our heavenly garment, we'd be lost. But our assurance is this: the Lord who began the work will see it through.

God is the one who has done it all, must do it all, and will complete it all. Our confidence isn't in ourselves, but in what God will do. Doubt whispers, "You'll fall. Your heart is too sinful. You'll be led astray by temptation." Yes, if it were up to us, we would fail. If we had to steer our fragile vessels through life's storms alone, despair would be certain. But, thanks be to God, he will perfect what concerns us and bring us safely home. Trusting in him, we can never be too sure, nor too eager to depend on his strength.

Closing Prayer

God, as we start this day, help us trust you fully, even when the path isn't clear. In Jesus' name, Amen.
