In every believer's heart there rages a constant war. The old nature is relentless—it loses no opportunity to unleash every weapon in its deadly arsenal against newborn grace! Meanwhile, the new nature stands ever watchful, fighting to resist and destroy its enemy.

Grace within us marshals its forces: prayer, faith, hope, and love. It takes up the whole armor of God and wrestles earnestly. Mark this well—these two opposing natures will never cease their struggle as long as we draw breath in this world.

Remember Christian's battle with Apollyon? Three hours it lasted. But his battle with himself? That raged all the way from the Wicket Gate to the river Jordan! The enemy is so securely entrenched within us that he can never be driven out while we remain in these bodies.

But hear this! Though we are closely beset and often locked in desperate conflict, we have an Almighty helper—Jesus, the Captain of our salvation! He is ever with us. He assures us that we shall come off more than conquerors through Him. With such assistance, the newborn nature is more than a match for its foes.

Are you fighting with the adversary today? Are Satan, the world, and the flesh all against you? Be not discouraged! Be not dismayed!

Fight on!

God Himself is with you! Jehovah Nissi is your banner! Jehovah Rophi is the healer of your wounds! Fear not—you shall overcome! For who can defeat Omnipotence?

Fight on, "looking unto Jesus!" Though long and stern be the conflict, sweet will be the victory, and glorious the promised reward.

From strength to strength go on! Wrestle, and fight, and pray! Tread all the powers of darkness down, And win the well-fought day!

Closing Prayer

The battle raging inside you today is proof that you belong to God. The very fact that you feel the conflict means grace is alive in you. So fight on, warrior. Your Captain has already won.
