Divine love shines brightest when it blazes through the darkness of judgment. Beautiful is that single star that breaks through storm clouds. Brilliant is the oasis that blooms in a desert wasteland. Just so, God's love is most beautiful when it appears in the middle of his wrath.

When Israel provoked the Most High with their endless idolatry, he punished them by holding back the dew and the rain. Famine gripped the land. But watch this: while God judged the nation, he took special care of his chosen ones. When every other brook ran dry, God kept one flowing for Elijah. And when that brook failed? God prepared another place to feed him.

But God did not have just one Elijah. No! He had preserved a remnant, chosen by grace. Fifty here, fifty there, hidden in caves. And while the whole nation starved, these hidden ones ate from the royal pantry itself—from wicked Ahab's own table, served by God's faithful servant Obadiah.

Do you see what this means? Come what may, God's people are safe. Let earthquakes split the ground beneath our feet. Let the sky itself crack in half. In the wreckage of worlds, the believer will be as secure as a child asleep in his mother's arms.

Hear me now: if God cannot save his people under heaven, he will save them in heaven. If this world becomes too dangerous to hold them, then heaven will receive them to safety. So be confident when you hear of wars and rumors of wars! Let nothing shake you. Be quiet from the fear of evil.

Whatever comes upon this earth, you are sheltered beneath the mighty wings of Jehovah. Stand on his promise. Rest in his faithfulness. Defy the blackest future—there is nothing in it that can truly harm you.

Your only concern? Show the world what it looks like to listen to the voice of wisdom. Show them the blessedness of a life hidden in God.

Closing Prayer

Whatever news breaks today, whatever crisis emerges, remember: you are hidden beneath wings that have never failed to shelter God's children. Let the world see your calm.
