July 24

Think about the might of the Lord, your glory and defense. He is a warrior. Jehovah is His name. The forces of heaven stand ready at His command. Angels and heavenly beings, powerful rulers and authorities, all eagerly await His will. If only our eyes weren't blinded by our worldly nature, we'd see the divine protection surrounding the Lord's loved ones.

Every power in nature submits to the Creator's command. Wind and storm, lightning and rain, snow and sunshine—all move at His word. He loosens the bonds of Orion and guides the gentle influence of the Pleiades. Earth, sea, air, and even the underworld serve as His army. Space is His camp, light is His banner, flame is His sword.

When He wages war, famine strikes, disease spreads, hurricanes sweep the seas, tornadoes rattle the mountains, and earthquakes shake the earth. Every living creature obeys Him, from the prophet-swallowing fish to the plague-bringing flies in Egypt. Worms and insects are also part of His vast army, for His camp is immense. My heart, make peace with this mighty King. Better yet, join His ranks, for fighting Him is madness, and serving Him is glory. Jesus, Immanuel, God with us, welcomes new recruits for the Lord's army. If I'm not enlisted, let me come to Him before I sleep and ask to be accepted through His grace. If I am already a soldier of the cross, let me take courage. The enemy is powerless against my Lord, whose camp is vast and mighty.
