Contemplate the Lamb as the light of heaven. In Scripture, light symbolizes joy. The joy of believers in heaven is this: Jesus chose us, loved us, bought us, cleansed us, clothed us, kept us, and glorified us. We're in heaven entirely through Jesus. Each of these truths is like a cluster of the grapes of Eshcol.
Light also brings beauty. Without it, beauty vanishes. No radiance flashes from sapphires, no calm glow from pearls. So, all the beauty of believers in heaven comes from Jesus. Like planets, they reflect the light of the Sun of Righteousness, living as beams from this central source.
If he withdrew, they would perish; if his glory dimmed, theirs would fade. Light symbolizes knowledge too. In heaven, our knowledge will be perfect, with Jesus as its source. Dark times we never understood will become clear, and all our puzzles will be solved in the light of the Lamb.
What revelations there will be, and what praise for our God of love! Light also reveals truth. In this world, we can't yet see what we will become. God's people are hidden now, but when Christ welcomes them into heaven, he will transform them into the image of his glory. Though once poor and wretched, they will be transformed. Once stained by sin, they will be bright as the sun and clear as crystal.
What a revelation! This all flows from the exalted Lamb. Whatever splendor there is, Jesus will be the heart of it all. How we long to be there and see him in his own light, King of kings and Lord of lords!
Closing Prayer
Lord, as this day begins, help us trust you fully, even when the path isn't clear. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
