August 12

The rainbow, symbolizing God's covenant with Noah, points us to Jesus, the Lord's witness to the people. When do we see this sign of the covenant? Rainbows appear painted on a cloud. When a sinner's conscience is shrouded in darkness and filled with remorse, Jesus reveals Himself as their covenant Rainbow, displaying God's glorious character and promising peace.

For believers facing trials and temptations, it's comforting to see Jesus suffering, living, rising, and interceding for us. God's rainbow stretches over the clouds of our sins and sorrows, promising deliverance. But a cloud alone doesn’t create a rainbow; raindrops must reflect sunlight. Our sorrows must truly touch us.

There would be no salvation if God’s vengeance were only a threat. Real punishment fell on Christ, our Surety. Until a sinner experiences genuine anguish, they cannot see Christ. Until their burden feels heavy, Jesus remains hidden. Yet, we also need the sun. Clouds and rain alone don’t create rainbows unless the sun shines. God, as our sun, always shines, though clouds sometimes hide Him.

No matter the rain or looming clouds, when He shines, a rainbow appears. They say when we see a rainbow, the storm has passed. Surely, when Christ comes, our troubles dissolve; sins disappear, doubts and fears fade. When Jesus walks the stormy sea, peace follows.

Closing Prayer

God, as we end this day, help us trust You fully, even when our path is unclear. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
