August 26

What a difference between Moses and Jesus! When Moses spent forty days on the mountain, his face shone with such brightness that he had to cover it because the people couldn't bear to look. Jesus, however, was transfigured with even greater glory. Yet, people weren't blinded. Instead, they were amazed and eagerly ran to him.

The law's glory pushes us away, but Jesus' greater glory draws us in. Though Jesus is holy and just, his compassion and grace are so evident that sinners are drawn to him. They become his disciples, welcoming him as their Lord. Perhaps you're overwhelmed by the demands of God's law. You respect it but struggle to live by it. Rather than drawing you to God, it leaves you feeling desperate.

Turn your eyes from Moses' daunting splendor and look to Jesus, with his gentle glory. See his wounds, his thorn-crowned head. He is the Son of God, greater than Moses, and the Lord of love, more tender than any lawgiver. In bearing God's wrath, Jesus revealed God's justice more fully than Sinai ever could. His justice now safeguards believers.

Look to the bleeding Savior. As you feel his love, run into his arms and find salvation.

Closing Prayer

Father, as evening falls, help us trust you fully, even when the path is unclear. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
