The believers in heaven are depicted around the throne. In Song of Solomon, when Solomon sings of the King at his table, some interpret it as a 'round table.' This suggests equality among believers. The four and twenty elders equally close to the throne bring this idea to life. Glorified spirits in heaven are close to Christ, seeing His glory clearly, constantly in His presence, and in true fellowship with Him. There's no distinction in closeness to Jesus — apostles, martyrs, ministers, and even the most humble believers will sit near the throne, forever gazing at their exalted Lord, fulfilled by His love.
Everyone will be near Christ, filled with His love, sharing at the same table, all equally cherished as His favorites and friends, though not all equally rewarded for their work. On earth, we should strive to be like these heavenly believers, drawing near to Christ. Let Him be the focus of our lives, just as He is for those around the throne.
Why do we tolerate living far from our Beloved? Jesus, draw us closer to You. Whisper to us, 'Abide in me, and I in you,' and let us say, 'His left hand is under my head, and His right hand embraces me.' O lift me higher, nearer to You, and as I grow, may I be more humble and rest at Your feet; trusting myself less, proving more of Your comforting love.
Closing Prayer
Lord, as night falls, help us lean on You completely, even when the way ahead seems uncertain. Through Christ, Amen.
