As I worked on this volume, the phrase 'evening wolf' kept coming to mind so persistently that I decided to dedicate a page to it. The evening wolf, maddened by a day of hunger, is fiercer and more ravenous than in the morning. Doesn't this fierce creature symbolize our doubts and fears after a day filled with distractions, business losses, and unkind remarks from others? How our minds scream, 'Where's your God now?' These doubts devour every comforting thought, leaving us as anxious as before.
Great Shepherd, defeat these evening wolves and let Your sheep rest in peace, free from consuming unbelief. The fiends of hell are like these wolves. When Christ's flock faces darkness and their faith wanes, they pounce to destroy. They rarely attack Christians in bright moments of faith, but in life's struggles, they strike. Protect Your sheep from these wolves, You who died for them.
False teachers, who slyly hunt and deceive, are just as dangerous as evening wolves. They thrive in darkness, live in deceit, and lead to destruction. We're at risk when they disguise themselves as innocent. Blessed is the one shielded from them, for many fall prey to these wolves disguised within the church. It's a marvel of grace when fierce persecutors are transformed, when a wolf dwells with the lamb and those with harsh hearts become gentle and teachable. Lord, transform many like this. We pray for them tonight.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, in this quiet moment, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. For Your glory, Amen.
