Fear led David to pray, "Perhaps I'll be gathered with the wicked." This fear, though mixed with doubt, often comes from a holy concern about past sin. Even those forgiven might wonder, "What if my sins are remembered at the end and I’m left out?" He sees his lack of fruitfulness, with little grace, love, and holiness. Looking ahead, he worries about his weakness and temptations, fearing he might fall prey to the enemy. These feelings drive him to pray, "Don't gather my soul with sinners."
If you've prayed this and your life matches the Psalm, don't fear gathering with sinners. Do you have David's virtues: living with integrity and trusting the Lord?
Are you relying on Christ's sacrifice, with humble hope at God's altar? Then rest assured, you won't be gathered with the wicked; it's impossible. At judgment, like gathers to like. "Gather the tares in bundles to burn, but gather the wheat into my barn." If you're like God's people, you'll be with them.
You can't be gathered with the wicked; you've been bought at a price. Redeemed by Christ's blood, you belong to Him forever. You're too loved to be cast aside with reprobates. Can someone Christ loves perish?
Impossible! Hell can't hold you. Heaven claims you. Trust in Jesus and fear not!
Closing Prayer
Lord, as this day closes, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
