September 22

We all know what it feels like to be overwhelmed, emptied like a dish wiped clean and flipped upside down, tossed like a ship caught in a storm. This happens when we see our inner corruption, if God lets our sins stir up trouble within us. Disappointments and heartache do this too, when one wave after another crashes over us, like a broken shell in the surf. Thank God, we have solace in these times: He is our safe harbor, a refuge for the weary.

God is higher than we are, with mercy greater than our sins, love deeper than our thoughts. It’s sad to see people trust in anything less than God. Our confidence is in a glorious Lord. He is a Rock, unchanging, a high Rock, above the storms that assail us. If we seek shelter in Him, we can withstand the storm; everything is calm in His shadow.

Yet, when our minds are troubled, we need guidance to reach this shelter. That’s why we pray: Lord, lead us in faith by Your Holy Spirit, guide us to Your peace.

We may be blown off course, our hands too weak to steer. Only You can guide us safely past hidden dangers to calm waters. We depend on You to bring us to You. Lead us wisely to safety and peace. Be gracious to us tonight, Your servants.

Closing Prayer

Jesus, in this quiet moment, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. Amen.
