In the evening, opportunities abound as people return from their work. This is the perfect time to share the love of Jesus. Do I have no evening work for Christ? If not, I should not hold back from such a vital service. Souls are perishing for lack of knowledge, and delaying might cost dearly.
Jesus stretched out both hands to the nails; how can I withhold one of mine from His work? He prayed and labored day and night for me. How can I spend even a single hour in idle comfort? Get up, idle heart; lift your hand to work or to pray. Heaven and hell are serious, and I must be too. This evening, let me sow good seed for the Lord.
Life is short, a morning of strength and an evening of decline make the whole of it. Some think it's long, but just as a small amount is significant to a poor man, so is life's brevity. No man can waste a day. If a king offered us gold for what we count in a day, we would start early and not stop until evening. Winning souls is far more important, yet we withdraw so quickly.
Some enjoy the blessing of a long evening in their older years. If that's my case, may I use every talent I have to serve my faithful Lord until my last breath. By His grace, I'll serve until I lay down my life. Age can instruct the young, cheer the weary, and encourage the downhearted. If old age lacks energy, it should bring wisdom. So, in my evening years, I won't hold back my hand.
Closing Prayer
Lord, as this day ends, help us to trust You completely, even when we cannot see the way. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
