The thought that Jesus was tempted just like we are is comforting to a weary heart. You've heard it many times, but have you truly grasped it? Jesus faced the same temptations we do. Don't see Him as distant from our humanity.
You're in a dark place, but Jesus has been there too. Your battle is fierce, but He has faced the same enemy. Take heart, for Christ has carried this burden before us, and His blood-stained footsteps are on the path we're traveling. There is something even sweeter: Jesus was tempted, but He never sinned.
So, my heart, you don't have to give in to sin. Jesus was a man, and if He faced these temptations and didn’t sin, then through His power, we can also overcome. Some new believers think temptation automatically leads to sin, but they’re wrong. Being tempted isn't sin; yielding to it is. This is comfort for those who are sorely tempted. There's even more encouragement in knowing that Jesus triumphed over temptation, and, as He overcame, His followers will too. Jesus is our representative.
Christ has triumphed, and we share in His victory. There's no need to fear, because Christ is with us, defending us. Our safest refuge is in the arms of the Savior. Maybe our temptations are pushing us closer to Him.
Blessed is any struggle that drives us into the safe harbor of our Savior’s love! Praise the trials that make us seek the Great Physician. Come, you who are tempted, to your Savior, who understands your weaknesses and will help you.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, help us draw closer to You through our struggles. Fill our hearts with Your love so we may share it freely. Amen.
