Jesus' miracle with the fish highlights the need for our efforts. The catch was supernatural, yet the fishermen, their boat, and gear still played a part. When it comes to saving souls, God uses these means. He delights in using preaching to save those who believe. While God can work without using tools, He has chosen to be most glorified through them.

On their own, means accomplish nothing. "Master, we've toiled all night and caught nothing." Why was this? They were experienced fishermen. They weren't lacking skill or effort—they worked hard all night. There wasn't a shortage of fish, as Jesus later showed when they filled their nets at His command.

The reason is simple: without Jesus, our efforts lack power. "Without him we can do nothing." But with Jesus, we can do anything. His presence brings success.

Jesus was with Peter, drawing fish into the net by His will. When He's lifted up in the Church, that power is ours too. "I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men to me." As we set out today, let's trust in faith, working hard for souls. Our efforts won't be in vain, for the one who tells us to let down the net will fill it.

Closing Prayer

Lord, as this day begins, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. For Your glory, Amen.
