How much do you owe your Lord? Has he done anything for you? Has he forgiven your sins? Has he covered you with a robe of righteousness? Has he set your feet on solid rock? Has he made your path secure? Has he prepared heaven for you? Has he prepared you for heaven? Has he written your name in his book of life? Has he given you countless blessings? Has he stored up mercies for you that no eye has seen and no ear has heard?
Then do something for Jesus worthy of his love. Don't offer your dying Redeemer nothing but empty words. How will you feel when your Master returns if you have to confess that you did nothing for him? That you kept your love locked up like a stagnant pool, never flowing out to his poor or to his work?
Out on such love! What do people think of a love that never shows itself in action? They say, "Open rebuke is better than secret love." Who wants a love so weak that it never moves you to a single act of self-denial, generosity, heroism, or zeal? Think how he has loved you! How he gave himself for you! Do you know the power of that love?
Then let it rush through your soul like a mighty wind, sweeping out the clouds of your worldliness and clearing away the mists of sin. Let "For Christ's sake" be the tongue of fire that sits upon you. "For Christ's sake"—let this be the divine rapture, the heavenly wind that lifts you above the earth, the divine spirit that makes you bold as lions and swift as eagles in your Lord's service.
Love should put wings on the feet of service and strength in the arms of labor. Fixed on God with a constancy that cannot be shaken, resolved to honor him with a determination that cannot be turned aside, and pressing on with an ardor that never wearies, let us manifest the constraining power of love to Jesus. May the divine magnet draw us heavenward towards itself.
Closing Prayer
Today, let Christ's love move you beyond words. Pick one concrete way to serve him—whether through generosity, sacrifice, or bold witness—and do it for his sake.
