November 1

Everyone faced destruction; no one escaped. The rich and poor, the educated and uneducated, the admired and the outcast, the religious and the irreverent, young and old—all met the same fate. Some mocked Noah. Where are their jests now? Others threatened him, calling his faith madness. Where are their boasts now? The critic who judged Noah's work drowned with the rest.

Those who spoke kindly of Noah's convictions but didn't share them are gone, along with the workers who built the ark for pay. The flood swept them all away, leaving no exceptions. Without Christ, every soul faces certain destruction. Neither status, possessions, nor good character can save anyone who hasn't believed in Jesus. My heart, consider this sobering judgment and tremble.

The apathy was astounding. People ate, drank, married, and celebrated until the very end. Not one wise person existed outside the ark. Everyone was foolish about their own survival, the gravest of follies. Doubting God, the greatest foolery of all. Isn't it strange, my heart? People neglect their souls until grace gives them reason. Then they leave madness behind and act wisely.

Thank God, all were safe in the ark; no destruction touched them. From the elephant to the mouse, from the timid hare to the bold lion, all found safety. Are you safe in Jesus, my heart?

Closing Prayer

Lord, as this day ends, help us trust You completely, even when the path is unclear. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
