December 15

Both women cared deeply for Naomi and chose to return with her to Judah. But when tested, Naomi unselfishly warned them of the challenges ahead and urged them to go back if they sought comfort. Initially, both declared they would stay with God's people. Yet, after more thought, Orpah tearfully left Naomi, her people, and her God, returning to her old life. Ruth, however, committed herself wholeheartedly to Naomi's God.

Loving the ways of the Lord when life is good is one thing; holding onto them through trials is another. A superficial commitment is easy, but truly following the Lord requires a firm decision for truth and holiness. Is our heart committed to Jesus? Are we ready to give up worldly comfort for His sake?

The reward is well worth it. Earthly riches can't compare to the glory to come. Orpah fades from history, her life consumed by worldly ease and idolatry. But Ruth's story lives on, her grace placing her in the lineage of the King of kings. Blessed are those who can let go for Christ. Those who choose the world over conscience will be forgotten. Let us not settle for a mere outward show of devotion this morning. May the Holy Spirit lead us to wholeheartedly cling to Jesus.

Closing Prayer

Lord, as we begin today, fill us with Your love so we may share it freely. For Your glory, Amen.
