What's the unmistakable sign that marks a child of God? We can't rely on our own judgment for this, but God's Word reveals it clearly. It says, "to as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to as many as believed on his name." So, if I've welcomed Christ Jesus into my heart, I'm a child of God. This act is described as believing in Jesus.
If I trust in Jesus from my heart, entrusting myself to the crucified and risen Savior, I'm part of God's family. No matter what else I lack, with this, I have the privilege of becoming God's child. Jesus puts it another way: "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." That's the essence of it.
Christ is the shepherd to his sheep, not to others. When he comes, his sheep recognize him. They trust him and are ready to follow him. He knows them and they know him. There's a mutual understanding and a constant connection between them. The true mark of being reborn and adopted by God is genuine faith in the chosen Redeemer. Are you unsure if you bear this mark?
Don't waste another moment without seeking God's insight: "Search me, God, and know my heart." This isn't something to take lightly. If you must be indifferent, let it be about something secondary, like your health or your possessions. But regard your soul and its eternal destiny with the utmost seriousness. Prepare yourself for eternity.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, in this quiet moment, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
