January 30

When Jesus gave himself for us, he included all the rights and privileges that come with being with him. As the eternal God, he has rights that no creature can claim. But as Jesus, the Mediator and head of the covenant of grace, he shares everything with us. The glorious results of his obedience to death are shared with all who are in him, for whom he fulfilled God's will. He enters glory, not for himself alone, for Scripture says, "Where the Forerunner has entered for us" (Hebrews 6:20). Does he stand before God? "He appears in the presence of God for us" (Hebrews 9:24). Think about this, believer.

You have no right to heaven on your own: your right is in Christ. If you're pardoned, it's through his blood. If justified, it's through his righteousness. If sanctified, it's because God has made you holy through him. If you're kept from falling, it's because you're preserved in Christ Jesus. If perfected at last, it's because you're complete in him. Jesus is glorified, for everything is in him and through him. The inheritance is sure because it's obtained in him. Every blessing is sweeter, and heaven itself brighter, because it's Jesus our Beloved "in whom" we've obtained all. Who can calculate our divine portion?

Weigh the riches of Christ and try measuring his treasure, and then consider the treasures belonging to believers. Reach the depth of Christ's sea of joy, and then try to understand the bliss God has prepared for those who love him. Jump beyond the boundaries of Christ's possessions, and then imagine a limit to the inheritance of God's chosen people. "All things are yours, for you are Christ's, and Christ is God's."

Closing Prayer

Father, as evening comes, help us to trust you fully, even when the path isn't clear. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
