No promise in Scripture belongs to just one person. Whatever God has said to any single believer, he has said to all of us. When he opens a well for one thirsty soul, it's so that everyone can come and drink. When he throws open the storehouse to feed one starving person, every hungry saint can come and feast!
It doesn't matter whether God spoke the word to Abraham or Moses. O believer, he has spoken it to you! You are part of the covenant family. There is no blessing too high for you to reach. No mercy too vast for you to receive. Lift up your eyes! Look north, south, east, and west—all of it is yours! Climb to Pisgah's peak and survey the farthest borders of God's promise. The whole land belongs to you.
There is not a single stream of living water you cannot drink from. If the land flows with milk and honey, then drink the milk! Eat the honey! Both are yours. Be bold to believe, because he has promised: "I will never leave you or forsake you."
And in this promise, God gives his people everything. "I will never leave you." Think about what that means! Not a single attribute of God will cease to be engaged for us. Is he mighty? He will show himself strong on behalf of all who trust him. Is he love? Then with lovingkindness he will have mercy on us. Every characteristic that makes God who he is—every perfection of his nature—fully engaged on your side.
Let me put it all together: There is nothing you can want, nothing you can ask for, nothing you can need in time or in eternity. Nothing in living, nothing in dying. Nothing in this world, nothing in the next world. Nothing now, nothing at the resurrection morning, nothing in heaven itself that is not contained in these words: "I will never leave you or forsake you."
Closing Prayer
Whatever you're facing today, remember: the God who spoke worlds into existence has promised never to leave you. Act like you believe it.
