The Israelites in the wilderness faced constant change. When the pillar stopped, they set up camp. But sometimes, before the sun rose, the trumpet called them to move. The ark was ready, the fiery, cloudy pillar led them through mountains, up hills, or across the desert. Barely rested, they'd hear, "Away! This isn't your rest; you're still on your journey to Canaan!" They couldn't stay in one spot. Even wells and palm trees couldn't hold them. But they had a permanent home in God. The cloud was their roof, the fire their warmth. They moved from place to place, never settling, unable to say, "Now we're secure, here we will stay." Moses said, "Though we're always changing, Lord, you've been our home through all generations." The Christian knows God never changes. Rich today, poor tomorrow; healthy now, sick later; happy now, sorrowful tomorrow—yet our relationship with God remains. If God loved me yesterday, He loves me today. My safe refuge is my Lord. Let prospects fail, hopes crumble, and joys fade; I've lost nothing of what I've in God. He is "my strong place where I can always come." I'm a pilgrim in the world, yet at home in God. I wander the earth, but in God, I dwell peacefully.

Closing Prayer

Father, as the morning begins, anchor our hope in Your unchanging promises. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
