When the Spirit of God descended upon Jesus, He also descended upon us, the members of Christ's body. His coming to us often happens swiftly, elevating us heavenward beyond what we expect. Yet, unlike earthly haste, the Spirit's wings are as gentle as they are swift.
Quietness is key to many spiritual movements. The Lord speaks in the gentle whisper; His grace comes like silent dew. The dove symbolizes purity, and the Holy Spirit embodies holiness. Where He dwells, purity and goodness overflow, and sin and uncleanness leave. Peace settles where the Spirit is present, carrying the olive branch that signifies the calming of divine wrath.
Gentleness emerges from the Spirit's power. Hearts touched by Him become meek and humble. Harmlessness follows naturally. While predators hunt, the dove endures wrong without inflicting it. We must be as harmless as doves. The dove also represents love; its voice is tender. Likewise, a soul touched by the Spirit is filled with love for God, for others, and especially for Jesus. The Spirit brings order and life to our hearts, sparking new life and light. Blessed Spirit, as You rested upon our Savior, rest upon us now and always.
Closing Prayer
Holy Spirit, as night falls, settle upon us with Your peace. Anchor our hope in Your unchanging presence. Through Christ, Amen.
