There are many ways to stay spiritually awake. One powerful way is for Christians to talk with each other about the ways of the Lord. As Christian and Hopeful journeyed to the Heavenly City, they said, "To prevent drowsiness here, let's have a good conversation." Christian asked, "Where should we start?" Hopeful replied, "Where God began with us." Then Christian sang:

"When believers grow sleepy, let them come here, And hear how these two pilgrims talk together. Let them learn to keep their drowsy eyes open.

If managed well, fellowship keeps believers awake. Christians who isolate themselves risk growing drowsy. Stay in Christian company to remain lively, refreshed, and encouraged in your journey to heaven. But, as you share counsel with others, focus your conversations on the Lord Jesus. Keep your faith fixed on Him. Let your heart be full of Him, and let your words honor His worth.

Live close to the cross, and you won't fall asleep. Remember the value of the place you're heading. Knowing you're bound for heaven will keep you alert. Remember that hell is behind you, and the devil is on your trail—you won't dawdle.

Would someone being pursued sleep while an avenger is on their heels and safety lies ahead? Christian, don't sleep with heaven's gates open, angels ready to welcome you, and a crown of gold waiting for you. No, stay in holy fellowship, watch and pray, so you won't fall into temptation.

Closing Prayer

Lord, as dawn breaks, help us to trust You completely, even when the way seems unclear. In Jesus' name, Amen.
