Every situation has both a bright and dark side. Rachel was overwhelmed by the pain of childbirth and her impending death. Yet, Jacob, while grieving for her, could still see the blessing in the birth of their child. It's good for us to let our faith see God's faithfulness even as our hearts feel the weight of trials. Like Samson's lion giving honey, our hardships can yield sweetness if we view them rightly.
The ocean teems with fish that sustain many; wild forests blossom with beautiful flowers. Storms clear pestilence, and frost makes soil ready for new life. Dark clouds bring rain, and the earth brings forth flowers. There's good to be found even amidst difficulties. Those with heavy hearts can often see only the negative side of any trial.
Even if there were only one struggle, they'd soon feel overwhelmed by it. Even if there were only one lion, they'd hear its roar. We all tend to fall into this trap at times, like Jacob, saying, "All these things are against me." But faith teaches us to give our burdens to God and expect good even from calamities. Like Gideon's men, faith doesn't dwell on shattered pitchers but celebrates the light streaming through. From difficulty, it seeks honor. From deep distress, it gathers invaluable experience. When prosperity fades, faith uncovers hidden treasures, and when joy fades, it looks to the promises of heaven. Even in the face of death, faith sees the light of resurrection, turning our sorrow into hope.
Closing Prayer
Father, as night falls, help us to trust You completely, even when the way forward is unclear. For Your glory, Amen.
