March 14

There's a strange fact: we can become proud of our own grace. Someone might say, "I've got great faith, so I won't fall. Maybe others will, but not me." Another might boast, "I love fervently; I won't go astray." Those who boast about their grace often have little of it. Some think their virtues can sustain them, forgetting that without a constant supply from God, their strength will run dry.

If fresh oil doesn't keep the lamp burning, it may shine brightly today but smolder and stink tomorrow. Don't boast in your own virtues. Place your trust and confidence in Christ. Only He can keep you from falling. Pray deeply and often. Spend more time in worship and study the Scriptures earnestly and regularly.

Watch your life closely. Draw nearer to God. Follow the best examples of faithfulness. Let your speech reflect heaven and let your heart be full of love for others. Live in such a way that people see you've been with Jesus and learned from Him. When the day comes for Him to call you higher, may you hear Him say, "You fought well, finished your race, and a crown of righteousness awaits you." Keep moving forward, Christian, with caution, fear, and trembling. Rely on Jesus alone, and pray always, "Uphold me according to your word." Only He can keep you from falling and present you faultless before His glory with great joy.

Closing Prayer

Father, this morning, help us trust in You completely, even when we can't see the way ahead. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
