Our Lord felt a deep sinking and melting of soul. "The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity, but a wounded spirit who can bear?" Deep depression of spirit is the hardest trial. Everything else pales in comparison. No wonder the suffering Savior cried to God, "Be not far from me." In such times, we need God most, when our hearts feel heavy. This morning, approach the cross and humbly adore the King of glory, who experienced deeper mental distress and anguish than any of us.
Consider His fitness as our High Priest, who understands our weaknesses. When sadness comes from feeling distant from our Father's love, draw near to Jesus. Let's not fall into despair, for our Master has gone through this darkness before us. Our souls may long and thirst desperately to see the Lord's light.
In those times, rest in the sympathy of our great High Priest. Our sorrow is small compared to His griefs; let our love for Him soar high. Come, strong love of Jesus, like the rising sea, cover all my being, drown my sins, wash away my cares, lift my earth-bound soul, and bring me to my Lord's feet. Let me, like a broken shell, washed up by His love, lie there. I whisper to Him that if He listens, He'll hear echoes of His vast love's waves within my heart, delighting to be at His feet forever.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, as dawn breaks, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. In Your name, Amen.
