All the goodness of the past, the present, and the future—Christ pours it all out on his people. Think of it! In the mysterious ages before time began, the Lord Jesus was his Father's first chosen one. And when he was chosen, we were given a share in that choice. We were chosen in him before the world's foundation was laid.
From all eternity, he possessed the rights of Sonship as the Father's only begotten, his beloved Son. And now, in the riches of his grace, through adoption and new birth, he has lifted us up to sonship too. To us—to us!—he has given the power to become children of God.
The eternal covenant belongs to us. Built on his guarantee, sealed with God's own oath, it stands as our strong comfort and unshakable security. In all the eternal plans of divine wisdom, in every decree of unlimited power, the eye of the Lord Jesus never left us. Rest in this: in the entire scroll of destiny, there is not one line written against those he has redeemed. Not one.
The engagement of heaven's Prince is ours—for we are his bride! Soon the wedding will declare it to the watching universe. The staggering incarnation of the God of heaven, with all its shocking humility, is ours. The bloody sweat in Gethsemane, the scourge tearing his back, the cross itself—ours forever.
Every blessed result that flows from his perfect obedience, his completed atonement, his resurrection, his ascension to the throne, his intercession at this very moment—all of it is ours. He gave it to us. Right now, our names are engraved on his priestly breastplate. Right now, in his authoritative pleading before the throne, he remembers our faces and argues our case.
His dominion over every principality and power, his absolute majesty in heaven—he uses it all for the benefit of those who trust him. Listen! His exalted position serves us just as fully as his humiliation did. He who gave himself for us in the pit of agony and death does not take back the gift now that he reigns in highest heaven.
Closing Prayer
Whatever you face today, remember: the One who rules the universe is using all his power for your good. Every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places is already yours in Christ.
