From every vantage point, our Beloved is most beautiful. Every experience we walk through—our heavenly Father designed them all to give us fresh perspectives on the loveliness of Jesus. How precious our trials become when they lift us to heights where we see Jesus more clearly than ordinary life ever could!

We have seen him from the mountaintops, and he blazed upon us like the sun in his strength. But we have also seen him from the lions' dens, from places of danger and terror—and he has lost none of his beauty. From hospital beds, from the very borders of the grave, we have turned our eyes to our soul's Beloved, and he has never been anything but altogether lovely.

Many of his saints have looked upon him from the darkness of prison cells and from the red flames of martyrdom. And what did they say? Not one bitter word against him! They died proclaiming his surpassing beauty.

Oh, what noble work it is to spend our days gazing at our sweet Lord Jesus! Isn't it unspeakably delightful to see the Savior in all his roles and find him matchless in every single one? Turn the kaleidoscope, and watch fresh combinations of peerless grace emerge—each pattern more stunning than the last.

In the manger and in eternity. On the cross and on his throne. In the garden and in his kingdom. Among thieves or surrounded by angels. He is everywhere altogether lovely.

Examine every small act of his life. Study every aspect of his character. He is as beautiful in the tiny details as he is in the grand moments. Judge him however you will—you cannot find fault. Weigh him by any standard you please—he will not be found wanting.

Eternity itself will never discover even the shadow of a flaw in our Beloved. Instead, as the ages roll on, his hidden glories will blaze forth with ever more inconceivable splendor. And his indescribable beauty will ravish every heart in heaven more and more and more.

Whatever angle life has you viewing Jesus from today—whether mountaintop or valley—look closely. He is still altogether lovely, and he always will be.
