Christian, never treat unbelief as a small thing. When a child of God doubts the Father's love, his truth, his faithfulness—this must greatly displease him. How can we grieve him by doubting the very grace that holds us up?

Christian! Every promise in God's precious Word stands against the thought that you could ever be forgotten or left to perish. If you could slip through his fingers, how could he be true who has said, "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast? Can she have no compassion on the child she bore? Even if she could forget, I will never forget you."

What value would there be in God's oath: "The mountains will disappear and the hills will vanish, but my unfailing love for you will never disappear, and my covenant of peace will never be shaken"? Where would be the truth in Christ's declaration: "I give my sheep eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand"?

Think about it! If even one child of God could perish, the whole gospel would collapse. The doctrines of grace would be lies. Where would God's truthfulness be? His honor? His power? His grace? His covenant? His sworn oath? If any soul for whom Christ died, any soul that has trusted him, could still be cast away—then God would be a liar.

So banish those unbelieving fears that dishonor your God! Arise! Shake off the dust of unbelief and put on your beautiful garments of faith. Remember this: it is sin to doubt the God who has promised that you will never perish. You have eternal life pulsing through your spiritual veins right now. Let it express itself in confident rejoicing!

The gospel bears my spirit up: A faithful and unchanging God Lays the foundation for my hope, In oaths, and promises, and blood.

Closing Prayer

That nagging fear that you might lose your salvation? It's not humility—it's calling God a liar. Trade those doubts for the joy of unshakeable security.
