Let's not think that the soul sleeps without awareness. "Today you'll be with me in paradise," Jesus promises every believer passing from this life. They "sleep in Jesus," but their souls are with God, praising Him day and night, singing to the One who cleansed them with His blood. The body rests in the earth, under a blanket of grass.

This sleep symbolizes rest, the Spirit reminds us. Just as sleep refreshes the body each night, it allows the soul to pause and find peace, like time spent in a restful garden.

The tired believer finds peace, like a child resting on its mother's chest. How blessed are those who die in the Lord; they rest from their labors and their deeds follow them. Their peaceful sleep will end only when God awakens them to their full reward.

Angels guard them, mysteries veil them, yet they remain heirs of glory until full salvation arrives. What a glorious awakening awaits! Though laid to rest weary and worn, they'll rise in beauty and splendor.

Just as a withered seed transforms into a beautiful flower, so the grave's winter gives way to the spring of salvation and the summer of glory. Death becomes a blessing, for through God's power, it removes our earthly clothes, dressing us in the incorruptible garments of eternity. Blessed are those who "sleep in Jesus."

Closing Prayer

Jesus, as the day begins, help us trust You completely, even when the way isn't clear. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
