We can't think we're suffering for Christ unless we're truly in Him. Are you relying on Jesus alone? If not, whatever you face on earth, you're not "suffering with Christ" and have no hope of reigning with Him in heaven. Not all suffering is with Christ, as we must be called by God to it.
If we act recklessly and find ourselves in situations neither providence nor grace intended, we should question if we're sinning instead of walking with Jesus. If we let emotions override wisdom and let self-will take charge over Scripture, we'll end up using the wrong tools for the Lord's battles. Don't be surprised if you hurt yourself in the process. Likewise, if our troubles stem from sin, they're not for Christ's sake. Miriam spoke against Moses, and her punishment wasn't for God.
Suffering that pleases God aims for His glory. If our goal is personal acclaim, we'll only get the empty praise the Pharisees received. Our patience must spring from love for Jesus and His people. We need to show the Spirit of Christ through meekness, gentleness, and forgiveness.
Let's examine if we're truly suffering with Jesus. If we are, then our "light affliction" is nothing compared to reigning with Him. It's a blessing to endure trials with Christ now, even without a future reward. But with the promise of eternal reward, shouldn't we take up the cross eagerly and continue with joy?
Closing Prayer
Lord, as this day ends, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. In Jesus' name, Amen.
