Study Scripture and gain knowledge, as it strengthens your faith.

Understand God's Word; let it fill your heart completely. "Add to your knowledge temperance." Be mindful of your body: practice self-control. Be mindful of your soul: maintain inner temperance. Practice self-control in speech, life, heart, and thought.

With God’s Spirit, add patience. Ask for patience that endures trials and emerges pure as gold. Be patient so you neither complain nor sink into despair during struggles. When you have patience, look to godliness. Godliness is more than religion.

Live for God’s glory; stay near Him; seek fellowship with Him. That’s true godliness. To it, add brotherly love. Love believers and add a charity that embraces all, loving their souls. As you wear these virtues, your assurance in your "calling and election" will grow clearer. "Give diligence" to gain assurance, for lukewarmness and doubt go hand in hand.
